Brunch and specialty coffee
Brunch arrived late and settled in forcefully: weekend terraces in Eixample and Gràcia, and a specialty coffee scene that now rivals northern cities for roasting and baristas.
Where the weekend brunch lives
The Eixample's gastronomic streets and Gràcia's squares concentrate the classic formula: eggs, pastries and queues on Sundays at one. Book or arrive before eleven.
The coffee scene
A solid belt of local roasters runs from the center to Sant Antoni and Poblenou, with bars where the espresso menu names the farm. Guide yourself by the roaster, not the interior design.
The local breakfast is cheaper
Before copying the Anglo formula, try the Catalan morning: café amb llet and toast with tomato and oil at the bar, standing, for a fraction of the brunch bill.
